Why do all teenagers behave like this, sometimes we wonder!! Why they show us the #I KnowItAll attitude. How could they not figure out that we are here to guide them through their problems! Children at this age have many more things other than studies to worry about. Be it their personal space, their friendship worries, their awkward habits, their physical appearance, language, manners etc. They need a listener who could understand their worries or could laugh out their awkwardness. It won't be wrong to say that our over protective approach makes them behave this way, but that's half true... It is also equally true that they are suffering from self praising euphoria created by themselves and their peers. Yes, peers have the biggest role in a child's personality building process. A teenager wants appreciation and acknowledgement from his peers in everything he does, rather than his parents or teachers. And the reason for that is peers would not judge him , at least not label him in negative way as we elders do. What his friends do is either appreciate his efforts or simply have fun, but they will never ever hurt him with serious comments about their personality which is a very touchy matter for them. So first lesson to become your child's friend is listen to him or her patiently. It is sometimes quite difficult for us as we have set the limits for them, but we must try to be patient. Remember, he or she is a human being first and then is your relative. They too want a good social status for themselves just like we elders do. The only difference is we are independent but they are not. I have personally noticed this -Make them realize they are inferior and they will cut themselves from your world. After all who would want to be in your company to be cursed all the time when there is a different world outside that embraces them with all their flaws. Try to be a good listener, rather than being a judge and see how they are ready to open the gate of their world to you. And that's a great feeling.
